You can play any sound file that's loaded in the editor:

While playing the Pause and Stop buttons are enabled.

While paused the resume button is enabled.

You cannot play and record at the same time in the editor but you can play a file and record it in the editor by using the Play and Record feature or you can open the source file in another player.
